The titular ‘Luminous’ was most interesting and thought provoking of the collection as it piqued my unders Good, but the previous short story collection ‘Axiomatic’ was filled with more interesting sci-fi. Luminous Collected Stories 2 by Greg Egan.

Learning to be Me: There’s no way I can summarize all of the stories so I only want to talk about two, both of which I found genuinely disturbing; more Philip K Dick than Asimov. I don’t mean to be unduly harsh, there were definitely some parts of this book that I liked and I’m glad that someone from my hometown of Perth is writing such high concept stuff, I just wish it was more focused on actually telling interesting stories, rather than getting lost in an ocean of science-fetishism, there’s already more than enough of that in Wired Magazine.
I ended up treating the rating as a rating of the better stories in the collection, for some of them are really very thought-provoking and will stay with you for a while.

Overall, though, I enjoyed ‘Axiomatic’ another collection of his short stories more, and would recommend you start there. A must read for hard sci-fi lovers.
La Biotecnologia Hermanas de Sangre: This opening story sets the tone of the book, with a vast array of subsidiary ideas and developments woven around the central character, evidence that Egan has written not just a gimmick-based story but thought things through to their ultimate conclusions.
By the time I finished reading these stories, I didn’t feel Egan’s imagined future was the one I’d choose for myself, but it probably was going to be similar to the one I’d end up with. Mitochondrial Eve I had read before and enjoyed, its very political in nature, and a novel idea. Please help me out thanks.
If you don’t see yourself understanding it, it is very skippable.
Egan axiommatico a famously reclusive author when it comes to public appearances, he doesn’t attend science fiction conventions, doesn’t sign books and there are no photos available of him on the web.
